Delete a Grade Item

Grade Items can be deleted only if they are not associated to a course activity such as an Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz.  If your grade item is associated with an activity (Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz), you must first de-associate the grade item from the activity before you can delete it. Skip to the sections for each tool below to learn how to de-associate your activities from grade items. 

If grades have been entered in your course, it is always recommended to Export your Grades prior to deleting anything.

Delete a Grade Item

  1. On the nav bar, click the Assessment menu, then select Grades.

  2. Select the Manage Grades tab.

  3. Click on the More Actions button and select Delete.

  4. Select the check box for the grade item you want to delete, and then click Delete. A grade item without a additional information about association icon icon next to it can be deleted. A grade item with a additional information about association icon icon next to it is associated to an activity (assignment, discussion, or quiz). It cannot be deleted until the grade item is de-associated from the activity.

    If you are unsure what activity your grade item is associated to, click the additional information about association icon icon to reveal information about the association. A pop-up window will display showing the activity that is associated. Follow the steps in the sections below to remove the association which will to allow you to the grade item.

  5. Click Delete to delete the selected grade items.

Delete a Grade Item Associated with an Assignment

  1. On the nav bar, click the Activities menu, then select Assignments.

  2. Click on the context menu next to the Assignment you wish to de-associate with a grade item and select Edit.

  3. Click the In Grades dropdown menu, then select Remove from Grades.

  4. Click Save and Close.

  5. On the nav bar, click the Assessment menu, then select Grades.

  6. Select the Manage Grades tab.

  7. Click on the More Actions button and select Delete.

  8. Select the check box for the grade item you want to delete, and then click Delete. Note: Since we removed the association from the Assignment first, there is not a additional information about association icon icon to the right of the grade item title, and the checkbox is available to check.

Delete a Grade Item Associated with a Discussion

  1. On the nav bar, click the Activities menu, then select Discussions.

  2. Click on the context menu next to the Discussion topic you wish to de-associate with a grade item and select Edit.

  3. Click the Assessment tab.

  4. Select the dropdown menu for the grade item, and change from the current grade item title to the selection to ” Choose Grade Item.”

  5. Click Save and Close.

  6. On the nav bar, click the Assessment menu, then select Grades.

  7. Select the Manage Grades tab.

  8. Click on the More Actions button and select Delete.

Delete a Grade Item Associated with a Quiz

  1. On the nav bar, click the Activities menu, then select Quizzes.

  2. Click on the context menu next to the Quiz you wish to de-associate with a grade item and select Edit.

  3. Click the Assessment tab.

  4. Select the dropdown menu for the grade item, and change from the current grade item title to the selection to “None.”

  5. Click Save and Close.
